When the Samsung Soul, or otherwise known as U900, first came out it was given a warm reception by many as one of the greatest mobile phones ever to be created. Continuing in that tradition, the Samsung U800 was slickly tagged as the Samsung Soul b while it was still in production. Widely viewed as the next in the series of the Samsung Soul, the U800 definitely is worth its weight in gold.

Comparison of Features between Samsung Soul and Samsung U800

Where the Samsung Soul is a slider phone, the Samsung U800 on the other hand goes the path of the candy bar. By doing so, the U800 manages to get even slimmer than the Soul, and is only 9.9 mm thick compared to the 12.9 mm that the Soul was hailed for. As a slider phone, the 12.9 mm width of the Soul was, and is, still respectable.

What the Samsung U800 loses in width, it also seems to lose in display screen size. Again, this is largely due to the inherent differences between slider phones and candy bar types; however the Samsung Soul managed a 2.2 inch screen whereas the Samsung U800 has to make to with 2 inches only. Apart from that the quality of both are pretty much similar.

Differences are more telling in the case of the digital cameras that both models possess, respectively. Instead of continuing with the 5.0 megapixel camera that the Samsung Soul would use, the Samsung U800 instead is equipped only with a 3.0 megapixel camera. Worth mention is that the U800 comes with incorporated image editing utilities; however that does not truly make up for the drastic loss of resolution.

Within the original Samsung Soul was a, then considerable, 100 MB of internal storage. In this, the Samsung U800 does pick up the baton and continue the tradition by providing with no less than 1 GB of internal storage. Of course, both models do support microSD cards, so the lesser memory of the Soul is not exactly deal beaking.

Finally, the last but probably most clear difference that separates these two mobile phones is that of the user interface. Below its main display screen, the Soul has an interactive touch panel that morphs according to the needs of the user based on the application that is being used. Revolutionary for some, but a genuine annoyance for others; no two people seem to agree on whether or not the user interface for the Soul would be better than the more conventional interface that the U800 has.

Perhaps having the U800 known as the 'successor' to the Samsung Soul was not such a great idea. Both mobile phones seem to fill separate niches that ensure that no matter what taste a customer may have, there is bound to be a mobile phone that catches the eye. As a successor, the Samsung U800 leaves much to be desired, however as a mobile phone in its own right, it performs well and has a very elegant look about it.
