MLM Do's and Don'ts

So you're thinking about joining an MLM business (or maybe you just joined)...now what?!

DO NOT Expect to Make Massive Income Your First Week in the Business!

A lot of times people get started in an MLM opportunity because of the hype the company/sponsor gave them. People are VERY excited and are ready to be millionaires next week. Well, what normally happens is that when they're not making a serious income after a week or couple of months, they get discouraged and look for a "better" network marketing business that they WILL make money in! If this is you: STOP! Unless you're an absolute superstar and know a lot of people interested in network marketing (as in, you've already built a team), you're not going to be quitting your job next week!

DO Tell Your Family and Friends

This is a touchy subject between leaders in the industry. Some say NEVER talk to your friends and family and some say that it should be the first thing you do. I think that it's important to tell the people close to you what you're doing, but, as with everything, there is a right and a wrong way to do this. Do NOT tell them that you're going to make millions (they will laugh in your face) and do NOT tell them that you're product cures cancer (or whatever it does)! Why should they believe you?! It is better to down play what you're doing. Especially in today's economy, people will be excited to make a couple extra hundred dollars (and are more likely to find this achievable) in MLM.

DO NOT Think You Have to Know Everything

So many people feel like they have to know everything about the business and products before they even get started. This is absolutely 100% not. As long as you know the products work and you have a belief in the network marketing business opportunity, you can start marketing. Actually, I have found that when people know every single thing about a product or business, they are passed back are somewhat intimidated by that. They don't think that they themselves can learn all that information out. So, somebody asked you a question that you don't know the answer to, all you have to do is be honest with them. Tell them, "You know what; I don't know the answer to that question. Let me do some research and setting a quick e-mail after we get off the phone."

DO Be Excited About Your Business Opportunity / Products

this is where a lot of people get thrown off because they are overly excited about what's going on in their lives. It's definitely important to be excited about what you're doing and what you're marketing and the value that you're bringing the world, but not everybody wants to know about what you're doing. It is absolutely inappropriate to shove your business or projects down anybody's throat. The decision to join the business should be your prospect's decision. He will not convince anybody join your MLM business, because if you do, they're probably not going to do anything anyways.
