Many people ask me why did I choose to learn to scuba dive, and to be honest, if you had asked me at the time, I would not really have known the answer. The truth of the matter is that, as with many things in life, I stumbled into it. At the time, I was busy doing my traveling thing, passing the days away visiting the various islands and beaches of Thailand, it just seemed like something interesting to do whilst passing the time.

What I discovered was genuinely life changing. It was unique; it was the genuine escape that you hear people talking about in the office every day. Ultimately, my life was changed by those few days scuba diving in Thailand, and from then on, all of my holidays, even my honeymoon, was dictated by where I could get in the water and scuba dive.

Learning to scuba dive genuinely unlocks a door to another, as yet unseen world. A world without words, and only the sound of your own breathing to keep you company. A beautiful, blue world of weightlessness, which leaves you alone with your thoughts, and increasingly aware of your senses.

I took my first scuba diving lessons almost ten years ago, and since then I have experienced some of my life's most incredible moments whilst scuba diving. No-one can quite prepare you for a large Spotted Eagle Ray staring at you from only a couple of meters away. Being able to look into that large, curious dark eye, whilst trying to work out what they are thinking, is an experience that cannot be replicated anywhere else, or in any other sport.

It is for these reasons, and numerous others, that scuba diving is today one of the worlds fastest growing sports, and each year increasing numbers are taking courses such as the PADI Open Water diving course, enabling them to experience the awesome wonders beneath the surface.

So if you are seeking that next challenge, or are maybe just looking for something different, why not consider taking some scuba diving courses and learning to scuba dive. Nowadays, there are an increasing number of company offering scuba diving lessons both at home and overseas. The choice is yours.
