A regular exercise program helps you lose weight by boosting your metabolism and strengthening your muscles. It also increases your energy and endurance and lifts your spirits. Exercise is by far the best investment you will ever make.

Did you know that after eating an ice cream sundae you could burn off the calories by sleeping for 15 hours or by watching TV for 12 hours? The problem with that is - you would not have enough time in a day to burn off an ice cream sundae along with your other meals. That is why exercise is so important to burn extra calories and fat.

Activity speeds up the body's metabolic rate. Not only are more calories burned during exercise, but also the effect continues for several hours. That is why most people feel energetic after they exercise. A regular exercise program promotes weight loss by pepping up the metabolism burning calories faster.

We all know that some type of physical activity is good for us, but most people think that they have to run 10 miles in order to burn off an apple pie, so they feel like - "what's the use!" However, there is a more effective way to burn calories and fat.

The safest and best exercise is walking; swimming is a close second. People with higher levels of fitness may choose a more strenuous form of exercise. Start slowly with what you can do. How fast you go is not the most important thing. What counts are the distance covered and the duration of the activity.

The best exercise program for fit people is actually done daily for 30 minutes and alternates between aerobic activity and strength training. However, people who need to lose weight must aim higher. An hour of walking a day is great.

A person, who walks five minutes, carrying 50 extra pounds, will burn more calories than a person carrying only 20 extra pounds who walks the same distance. If you want to get in shape, walking by far is the best way to accomplish your weight loss goals.

Maybe you have heard people say "No pain, no gain." Do not follow that advice. Walking can provide the physical activity you need and boost your metabolism. Exercise does not have to be hard to be beneficial.

The best thing about walking is you do not have to do it alone. Walking with a friend or a spouse is beneficial, because you can encourage each other, and it makes the miles fly by. Walking with your family is also a good way to get in family time.

Make walking a part of each day. Start out slow with just 10 minutes a day, and work your way up from there. When combined with eating right, walking is an effective way to keep your weight under control.

People who regularly walk one and a half to three miles have less heart disease, less cancer, less diabetes, less obesity, and fewer colds.
