It is important to not approach a formal herb garden design in a casual manner and there are a lot of different things that should be considered. It is possible for herbs to be planted in a formal garden or they can be plated alongside flowers or even as part of a themed garden.

It is also possible to make a patch that is just for culinary herbs. This patch can be kept just outside the kitchen door or you could even create a medical herb garden.

If the yard is big enough and the garden has at least some experience then they could experiment with growing an herb garden that is formal. These gardens can be constructed using a number of rectangle or small square beds and these should be laid out in a grid shaped pattern with paths between the different beds so that there is adequate access to each of the plots.

The plans for a good formal garden of herbs would include a number of rectangular beds that feature various different herbs. These rectangular beds should be surrounded by smaller beds, which are square in shape. These small square beds should contain a range of medicinal herbs. The formal garden can be laid out at ground level however it is very common for the beds to be raised and each of the beds are devoted to some specific species of herb.

In order to increase the level of formality within the garden flowering or ornamental herbs can be planted in large pits that are made from clay and these can be placed at the points where the paths meet. There is really no need to restrict the beds to just squares and rectangles as you can experiment and do some fancy shapes. It is possible to incorporate a wide variety of things into the design of an herb garden.
