The Truth about Profitable Home Based Businesses

For many people their profitable home based businesses are robbing them blind. "How is this possible?" you may ask. "If they chose the right money maker, they should be rich."

Well, I'll tell you this: It's not money they are losing, it is life itself. They are letting their business run them - when it should be the other way around. After all, many quit their job to get away from working for a boss. And here they are, working more than they did in their job.

Of the 30 to 40 business owners I talk to each month, 80% of them work too many hours. Many are on the Internet 16 hours a day, five days a week. Some cannot recall when they last went on vacation.

Alex, who made more money in his home businesses than anyone I ever met, had some insider secrets about not working too hard. I would like to share five of them with you.

1) Schedule tasks. Spend no more than 30 minutes on your e-mail a day. Most customers ask the same questions so include the answers in an FAQ page on your site. Limit online time to 2 hours a day. Check your orders and traffic stats first thing in the morning.

2) Delegate. Outsource everything you can. Never do work that a professional can do faster and better. You will save money and spare yourself aggravation.

3) Focus your marketing. Market only to those people you know will buy. Marketing too broadly will waste your time and money. In fact, it is wise to know who your customers will be before you choose a product. Read the magazines they read and go out and meet your prospective customers. An excellent group of people to market to are young parents. They tend to buy a lot.

4) Work as fast as you can. "Do the best you can in the shortest amount of time," Alex would urge me. "Remember, nobody is perfect." It may help you to use timers in the beginning to get yourself in the flow of working fast.

6) Take a break. Look forward to meeting someone new every day. You will often get new ideas for your business just by being around other people. If you need someone to size up your product, ask an 11-year-old. At that age, children are helpful and frank. Be sure to take time for a long walk every day and relax in the sun.

Above all, make your home based businesses work for you. And, make time to have fun.
