Abundance or Scarcity?

Growing up as a boy, I was led to believe that I was in competition with other kids. There were only so many good grades to be given out, positions on the sports teams, and cadets at the Air Force Academy. There was competition in training as a Navigator, performing the duties of a Fighter Pilot, and working as an Instructor Pilot in the United States Air Force. Competition was intense as I aspired to become a leader in a major fortune 500 company. In the back of my mind, there was a Scarcity Attitude of what people wanted and I had to compete to get my share. With this attitude and approach to life, there come some negative beliefs. Negative beliefs like not genuinely sharing recognition, appreciation, credit, power, and emotions like doubt, frustration, fear, and sometimes anger. Life can become fairly intense when one is competing for what is believed to be deserved. Isn't that the situation for many of us today? But is it the TRUTH?

Nine years ago I began to write and mail Newsletters to my customers. Then it was a marketing tool. As I solicited feedback and transitioned to include weekly e-mails to the people I worked with, I discovered that recipients really liked and enjoyed them. They shared them with others and in one case it changed a spouse's life! Do you copyright and restrict distribution of a service that positively uplifts people's spirits? I decided that living my life mission meant sharing these messages with as many people as possible. That's worthwhile. That decision was made from a position of abundance, sharing, and Love. So was born the phraseology, "Please feel free to use the information in this issue in any way you like."

The TRUTH is that the world is an abundant place in which to live. It is filled with opportunity, resources, and great experiences. It is a bountiful place filled with all the things one needs to be happy. It is a place filled with love and caring beyond our wildest imagination. The challenge that we all face is seeing the world in that way. The way we see (perceive) and attach meaning to our world determines our attitude and experience of life. Viewing the world as a place of abundance creates a life that is filled with content, peace, and caring. Viewing life as a place of scarcity creates a competitive, self-serving, and uncaring world. Think of an Apple Pie. There are only so many pieces, right? So, to get your piece you need to snatch it now before someone else gets it (scarcity attitude). But what if pies were being prepared and baked continuously so there would be plenty for everyone? There would be an abundance of Apple Pie!

Life can be lived with an abundance mentality. We can look at life with an abundance attitude and then take the actions necessary to create plenty for all. In looking at life like this, one will experience greater happiness, joy, love, and a peace that can transcend all troubles. As a result, actions in ones own life will be taken that create the abundance that is desired. What is your choice? Abundance or Scarcity? Write and place in your work area or home this affirmation, "I live and work in an abundant world and I love life." Repeat it often and you will!
