When fire damages your residence it is terribly distressing. Psychologically, it is overwhelming, scary, and depressing. Seeing your fire damaged residence can leave you not sure what to do. Get the telephone and phone your homeowner's protection agent's office. Let them hear what has happened and start an insurance claim. When you have the okay from the fire marshal to go into your house make sure to snap pictures of all the damage before you go near anything. Be certain to wear protective clothing and a good face mask when you walk into your home.

Shut off the energy and gas lines to your house. Open all the doors and windows in the abode to get air moving and to scatter the smoke odor in the air. Remove any burnt and unsalvageable belongings from the home and dispose of them. Get all the belongings that are material based and have smoke damage from the place and have them cleansed to eliminate any filth and the odor of smoke. Take away any decor from the walls and take them outdoors. Get rid of any wooden furniture that needs to be washed.

Remove any unprotected or destroyed food items as they could be septic or spoiled due to the temperature of the fire. Empty and wash the refrigerator and freezer. Wash down the household machines and call to have mechanic check the appliances before they are used again. Wipe all the restroom and kitchen fixtures so they won't be discolored and undergo everlasting damage. Do the same to all the countertops and anything made from Formica. Make certain that you rub any porcelain fixtures like basins, toilets, and tubs to keep from etching.

Take any plants outside and wipe the leaves and spray them off to remove any residual soot that may have settled on them. Change the furnace and any other filters in the residence to remove the soot which may have collected in them. Have the ducts for the furnace and air conditioner washed and disinfected to help remove dirt and particles from the air.

Vacuum any dirt off of get rid of them so they can be professionally washed. You can start removing filth from the walls with dry cleaning sponges, beginning from the top and going down. If the floor coverings have been destroyed or are sopping with water used to put out the fire there's a chance they will have to be replaced completely.
