A play called the innocents opened its curtains at the local theater featuring local artists. And at the set of this show hangs a picture, the subject of countless strange stories and tales. And the long time owner of this picture is someone who maintains anonymity. The owner was traveling down the road when this picture suddenly got her eye and she suddenly bought it under reasons even she cannot understand.
Thinking what exactly she was doing, she asked herself how she can possibly afford that portrait as she stood there while the clerk took it from the window. She thought of her children who needed books, clothes and school supplies soon for their classes. I am sorry I cannot afford it no matter how beautiful it is, she recalls pondering about these words which she will tell the saleslady. In a very loud voice, she yelled that she just had to purchase the portrait no matter what, stopping the clerk before she could return the portrait back in place.
The lady, after paying and walking out of the antique store wondered how exactly she allowed herself to buy it when she could not even afford it, and how she was possibly going to explain to her husband as soon as he finds out about her ridiculous compulsion that made her buy that painting. It was a painting done around the late 1800's and early 1900's, featuring a Borzoi, a Russian wolfhound in oil. Most would agree that it was an enchanting portrait but then for some who have been trained and are familiar with the Borzoi, they should be able to point out that it was absurd how the artist chose to show only the head and shoulders of the dog, and cast it in an almost straight on pose. One will also find that the shoulders and chest are not proportioned accurately.
It was a strange fact that the woman, whose eyes were expertly trained of how a Borzoi should appear and knew so much about the breed, still went ahead and purchased it. It was rather bizarre how when her husband arrived home that night, he felt the exact same attraction his wife felt for the Borzoi painting and he did not blow up as what was thought initially by the wife who mindlessly overspent on something when the needs of the children had to be bought.
There has been quite so many photographers, both experts and newbies taking photos of this painting but there was never an instance that two similar shots of it came out. It was strange how the Borzoi painting would come out like it was three dimensional, while it would be flat at certain occasions, then there would also be times when the pictures would be in color or black and white but nevertheless, lights would strangely linger in the surfaces but the most chilling would be the times when a spectral silhouette would show at its right portion.
I don't agree that some sort of entity came with this portrait, perhaps we just imagine so many things and our eyes make us see stuff from sorts of light reflections, shared the husband when he and his wife discussed the possibility of a supernatural force behind the portrait of the Russian wolfhound. A large ceramic plate that was on the wall suddenly fell without breaking, not even a crack in sight, and this was a mystery indeed.
During the time that director of the playhouse who is also its producer, heard about the portrait, he quickly went to the couple who gladly loaned it to him for it would be perfect for his play which was a story of the supernatural. They insisted that something went with that picture, moving into their home on the day they bought it, and they believe that lending it for his stage play, the Innocents, might be able to shed some light on this mystery. They wish that this was true, at least.
