Business, Keep Your Employees Happy

Depending on the type of business you run, keeping your employees happy could be easier said than done. But happy employees are essential to a great, booming business that will be a presence for the long-run. Well, I guess that is not necessarily true. But a booming business needs employees to work hard, and happy employees are more apt to work harder during their shift than unhappy employees. Here are a few ways to keep your employees happy, healthy, and working hard.

- First of all, find out how they are doing, if they are experiencing any problems with the job, quota/expectations, management, or fellow employees. The best way to find out this information is through online survey software. You can customize this survey to find out information for every relevant category.

- Sometimes employees "fight back" when professional consultants come in to train them. Consider having a fellow employee, once a month, teach everyone what they know about their own job and how it should be done. This might really help with workplace animosity.

- If you are in the customer service industry, consider giving rewards and recognition to those who had to deal with the most difficult customer that week. This way, your employees won't try to avoid difficult customers, but they will actually look forward to getting one every once in a while.

- Get to know your employees. Speak to them by name. It is something so simple, but can make a world of difference in the workplace.

- Actually perform the evaluations that you are supposed to perform. Those that do a great job at work will look forward to these with the knowledge that they might be able to get a raise. That makes everyone happy.

- If your industry carries a lot of stress with it, consider offering discounts off of joining a health club or something like that.

- Try to make their job as less-stressful as possible. Make sure your responsibilities don't fall on those below you. For example: I had a boss who lost important document after important document. He placed it on me to find each of these documents and look into document retention software when it was his responsibility. It didn't exactly create a nice ambiance in the workplace.

- Simply, treat them with the respect they deserve.
