Salvation: a Gift from God

Can you imagine it?
There's a Christmas tree with so many gifts under it that...
they're stacked several layers deep,
they're leaning up against the wall behind the tree,
you've got to make sure you don't trip over them when you walk past the tree.
There's a tag on each gift. You grab the one in front of you. It says "life." You grab another. It says "love."
As you plow through the gifts, you may find "health," your mom, your dad, a brother or sister, aunt or uncle. You may find your cousins and neighbors. You may find all of your friends names, each on a box. You may find "intelligence," "athletic ability," "artistic ability," "writing ability," everything folks have said you do well. You may find good memories, important lessons you have learned -- all you've ever been able to accomplish.
You may find toys, or clothes, that you've been wanting. You may even find candy, cakes or cookies you enjoy.
Way at the back of the tree in a hard-to-reach corner is a green shiny present tied with thick, red ribbon. You could have overlooked it so easily. You were so overwhelmed and overjoyed with all the other gifts...
You grab it. It says "salvation."
Wow.
Our father in heaven has given us so many gifts...
"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord," Romans 6:23
