What's That Your Eating?

Reason I am writing this article is to discuss food obsession and how it affects our health, emotions and physical well being. While going for my walk Sunday morning at a local mall as soon as the food court opened at 11am I saw a swarm of people going in line to get food and so I stayed at food court in observation of our obsession with food and I must say that I was NOT surprised to see nothing but mammoth portions! Almost everyone ordered super sized coffee, juices, not 1 dough nut but 2 or more, no wonder we are SO FAT! Most of the time we are eating for 2 or more people and that's outrageously dangerous to our health.

A lot of people treat their body just like a trash can or a really old car. They put in all kinds of unhealthy food and expect that the car will work just fine or the trash can stays clean. It's a miracle how long our bodies can perform on unhealthy fuel, but what stress this causes to our systems! Our bodies are much more efficient than any engine on the market.

With the continuous eating of unhealthy food, the day will come for the body to give up. Slowly but steadily, parts of the body will stop working. The problems usually start within the digestive system and stomach. What frustrates me is that if you go into the pharmacy/drugstore and tell the pharmacist about the problem, they will tell to buy some pill or liquid to stop the discomfort. They are very familiar with these ailments because many people show up on a daily basis looking for relief for their stomach and digestion system problems. We act like this is normal but is it really normal? I THINK NOT! We feel sick, but this is normal. Everybody is sick, who cares?

If you choose food to become the quick fix, over time this will create stress and disease on your body and your health. Eventually you will need to get to a doctor, spend time to get your prescription, you'll need even more time to get things accomplished in your life and you'll need more time to get new information to your brain. Your whole body will slow down, you will age faster and you'll look unhealthy is that how you want to live your life?

Food? What does it mean to you? Do you just get something in your belly to get past that afternoon hunger slump or do you try to get the food thing over with quickly so you can get onto the more important priorities in your life? Do you eat because you feel lonely or upset? Ask yourself these questions to determine what food really means to you.

Many people think that eating is the only thing in life; this is what I call living to eat NOT eating to live. Some people plan their whole day around food. Some people just eat when others share because they want to feel part of something.

What will it take for you to change the meaning of what food means to you? Maybe it's the money you can save on doctor visits. Maybe it's that you'll feel happier and satisfied in your life with healthier foods. Maybe it's the understanding that healthier foods are the best way to get your healthy body weight. It's the whole foods diet, it's so natural that it isn't even a diet; it's just the natural way to eat, be fit and healthy.

Yes, whole foods are more expensive than processed packaged foods and it's true that foods in the health food stores are more expensive than in the grocery store. You would not fill your cars gas tank with some old oil because it's cheaper. You know that this would stress out your cars engine right? The same applies to the quality of food you take into your body.

Please take the time to prepare fresh healthy meals for you and your family. Enjoy eating this healthy food and educate your kids and your family to do the same. Relax when you sit down to eat and make sure nothing disturbs you while you're relaxing and enjoying the nourishment your body is receiving during your meal. Turn the telephone ringer off, turn off the TV and radio and just enjoy the gratitude. It is important to create a quiet time in which to fully appreciate the nourishment you are receiving.

What are the values of food to you? Is it that you eat for pleasure, to cover up your emotional mess, or is it just a hobby to shove food down your throat even though you're not hungry and see how FAT you can get?
