One of the most sought after body looks is the flat stomach or six pack. Mostly, the desire of men now women also want that ripped abdominal look. This is not surprising as you can see all these hunks with six packs on the TV and plastered over the front pages of every fitness magazine cover. They all claim to give you a six pack in no time with little to no effort. However, what many do not seem to mention is that you have to lose fat around the waistline to get that true ripped ab look. If you have 3 inches of flab on your belly then, no matter how many abdominal exercises you do you will never be able to see those abs through that amount of fat.

To get the perfect abs you do not need to use any of those fancy ab exercise machines you see advertised on TV. The old basic exercises such as sit ups, the plank and the various crunches are the most effective in producing the desired results. For example, mix up a week's routine with a combination of crunches, leg raises or abdominal curls. Out go the burgers, fries and cola and in come the fresh vegetables and fruit, lean meats, carbohydrates and proteins. Another essential habit to adapt is to drink plenty of purified water as this will help cleanse the body, boost your energy levels and prevent you from getting dehydrated.

The third and final component is a cardio fitness program that is going to target at removing all that fat from your belly. Cardio exercises focus on getting your heart and blood pumping by using oxygen as the fuel. This increases your body's metabolic rate which will burn the excess calories and fat from your body. As with the ab fitness exercises you will get more benefit and faster results by using a variety of different exercises such as running, rowing, jogging and team sports like basketball.
