VW's Lamborghini Announces Quadrupled Pretax Profit for 2006

The Lamborghini SpA is considered a sports car of the stars and two famous personalities own one of these beauties. Actor Jamie Foxx and soccer star David Beckham are just two of the famous personalities that own a Lamborghini.

The Lamborghini SpA is an Italian company that is a subsidiary of the German car manufacturer Audi which is in turn is a subsidiary of Europe's largest automaker, Volkswagen---renowned in the world for its unparalleled vehicles and quality auto parts like the VW antenna mast. According to the Italian company they have obtained a pretax profit for 2006 which is more than quadrupled of what they have expected. Such remarkable financial turnaround of Lamborghini SpA was the result of the launching of new models which have attracted customers.

The pretax profit earned by the Italian super luxury sports car unit of Volkswagen AG for 2006 rose to a record of 18.1 million euros or $24 million USD from 4.4 million euros in 2005. Similarly, the overall sales of Lamborghini have increased by 43 percent or 346.3 million euros.

Last year Lamborghini's sales rose by 30 percent totaling to 2,087 sports cars. Stephan Winkelmann, Division President of Lamborghini has pushed to increase sales by boosting production to 13 cars daily last year from one car a day in 2000. He was also able to help in improving Lambo's finances and by 2004 Sant' Agata Bolognese, Italy-based carmaker returned to profit.

According to Winkelmann in an interview in Ingolstadt, Germany, "We have a complete model range, which is the youngest we have ever had. We are now a real car manufacturer."

It should be noted that last year the Italian super luxury sports car unit of Volkswagen has launched two new models namely the Gallardo Spyder and Murcielago Coupe LP 640. The carmaker was able to sell a total of 817 Spyders in 2006 and 318 Murcielago Coupes also on the same year.

Winkelmann has also said that starting January this year they are expecting for sales to rise by at least 5 percent boost by the Murcielago LP640 Roadster. The Murcielago is offered at a base price of $350,000 and will be marketed in the first half of 2007. Winkelmann further added that the Murcielago Roadster is already sold out for 2007 while a couple of the Roadster for 2008 is partially sold. "For financial year 2007, the company plans to continue to generate solid and sustainable growth in sales and profits."

The Italian luxury sports car manufacturer is also focusing on adding 10 to 12 dealers from its present network of 100 dealers. And Lamborghini is planning to open half of those dealerships in the US where it has obtained more than 40 percent of its sales. Lamborghini was able to sell more than 300 units in California alone making it the single-largest market.
