If you are relocating to Anaheim, California, welcome to Disneyland! With its theme parks, sports teams and convention center, Anaheim thrives on tourism as a rapidly growing city.

In Orange County, California, the city of Anaheim is part of a large metropolitan area. Primarily urban population, recent estimates have 342,410 living in the city. Add the outlying communities, and nearly 3,000,000 people reside in the metropolitan area. The population density is high with over 67-hundred people per square, revealed by U.S. Census Bureau statistics in 2000. The Hispanic race was well above the state average, accounting for 46.8% of the population. White non-Hispanic residents totaled 35.9%, Asian (12%) and Black (2.7%). The foreign-born population in Anaheim is significantly above average for California. Low is the median age of residents at 30 years.

If you are relocating to Anaheim, you'll find it's not difficult to find work. As of early 2005, Orange County's unemployment rate was the lowest in California. Demographics vary greatly within the city with Anaheim Hills' residents averaging $120,000 of household income annually. On the west end of the city the average income is $38,000 where the population is predominantly Hispanic and black. But poverty levels are still low. About 10.4% of families and 14.1% of the population were below the poverty line. Anaheim also ranks as one of the safest cities for its size. The crime index in 2005 was 281.4, much lower than the national average of 325.2.

Anaheim is the largest and wealthiest city in Orange County. Most important to the economy is tourism. It's no surprise that the largest employer in Anaheim is Disneyland with its theme parks employing an estimated 21,000 people. Disney operations pump $3.6 billion of revenue into the community annually. When Disneyland opened in 1955, Anaheim had only 87 hotel/motel rooms. Today travelers can count on nearly 20,000 places to stay. Another vital part of the tourism industry is the Anaheim Convention Center, home to many national conferences. Put it all together and Anaheim is one of the top convention and vacation destinations in the country.

With very little rainfall, summers can be moderate to hot. Winters tend to be mild and dry. Average temperatures between January and July do not differ greatly at 57 and 74 degrees, respectively. Annual precipitation is 11 inches on average. Anaheim is relatively flat except for newer residential areas on rolling terrain at the foothills of the Santa Ana Mountains. If you are relocating to Anaheim, you won't be far from the Pacific coastline, just 13 miles away. Also close by is the college campuses at Fullerton, Santa Ana and University of Phoenix-Southern California. Combined the three colleges provide higher education to well over 40,000 full-time students.

Travelers to Anaheim primarily use Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) located just a half hour away. LAX) is the third busiest airport in the world. Santa Ana's John Wayne Airport, just 16 miles from Anaheim, is smaller but dependable for its domestic travel. Metrolink, a regional commuter rail system, and Amtrak serve the city as does Greyhound with daily bus service to many U.S. locations.
