Honda's Global Production Increases
Honda Motor Co. reported a double-digit rise in global production in May. Meanwhile, competitors Toyota, Nissan and Mitsubishi Motors also posted output gains. But Mazda's worldwide number of produced vehicles fell 2.1 percent.
Maker of the updated Honda computer chip and Japan's second-largest car maker, Honda said that global production increased 10.9 percent to 329,507 vehicles in May, the 22nd straight monthly gain.
With 105,188 output in Japan, the auto maker experienced an 11.8 percent increase, marking the month of May as the 12 consecutive month of rise. Meanwhile, Honda's production outside Japan reached 224,319 units making a 10.4 increase and is the 22nd straight monthly advance on higher production in North America, Europe and the rest of Asia.
Toyota Motor Corp., the one that stole the 1st spot as the world's largest automaker from General Motors Corp., said that its global production rushed to 9.8 percent making 702,382 vehicles in May from the year before on huge demand for its Camry, Lexus and hybrid cars such as the Prius.
A total of 322,841 units were produced by Toyota in Japan, marking a 7.9 percent rise while overseas output experienced an 11.5 percent increase due to its 379,541 produced vehicles.
With an increase in overseas output offsetting a decline in the smaller domestic market, Nissan Motor Co. said its worldwide production rose 6.9 percent due to the 262,572 produced vehicles. Meanwhile, the domestic output by Nissan, which 44 percent is owned by Renault SA of France, declined 12.3 percent with 71,489 vehicles. However, its overseas output flowed 16.4 percent with 191,083 units.
One hundred eight thousand four hundred twenty six (108,426) vehicles were produced by Mitsubishi Motors Corp. on a global basis and represent a 6.5 percent increase. A 14.1 percent rise with 108,426 vehicles was reached by its domestic production that depicts an eighth straight month of growth on year.
Outside Japan, production was 0.9 percent down with 50,894 vehicles. As a breakdown, production in Europe posted a 33.5 percent drop while output in North American gained 1.5 percent.
Mazda Motor Corp., a subsidiary of Ford Motor Co., said 92,416 vehicles were produced on a global basis which is reflecting a 2.1 percent drop. Eight (8) percent growth was experienced in Japan with 73,175 units whose figure was tremendously contributed by the healthy output of the Mazda3 and Mazda5 models.
Mazda's overseas production dropped 27.9 percent with 19,241 vehicles due to the diminished production of models that include the Mazda6. According to the Hiroshima-based company, such decline was suffered despite of the fact that there was an increased output of the Mazda3 model.
