New Facebook Gift Shop - How Facebook Users Can Now Express Themselves With Gifts
Now Facebook users can give each other gifts. These are small icons that stay on a users profile. They are rolling them out at $1.00 each and giving the February proceeds to the (Susan G.) Komen for the Cure cancer research charity. That's a good way to start things off!
These small icons can be set to be seen by everyone or only seen privately. This is a neat twist on an online gift. You have to love having options because that aids how you can use them creatively.
When the gift is set to be seen by all it will go into the receiver's Gift Box. Then a public message that is attached to the gift is seen on the receiver's Wall. So you can make a public announcement of your feelings for your friend. I like how they've structured this gift giving program.
On the other hand, if you want to keep your gift private, then your message will not be seen on their Wall. Even private messages will be displayed in their Gift Box though. Then the public at large will not know who gave the gift but they will still see it.
You have to like having options with a gift giving program. And everyone appreciates supporting a good cause (at least for the month of February).
The neatest suggestion that Facebook makes is chaining these small icons together to create a thought, sentence, or innuendo. Now that's creativity. But Facebook is loaded with creativity. For example, if you are not a current user, you can type in an email address that you use. Then they'll check to see if any of your contacts are current users. Then you will have a network to plug into when you join instead of having to search for one to be a part of. You can see if anyone you know is connected in this social network before you even register.
Their Gift Shop could start a viral gift explosion. I hope it captures interest all year long and not just on birthdays and holidays. Since Valentine's Day is one week away, it's a great time to launch this Gift Shop!
