Edinburgh On A Budget

There are many attractions to see and things to do in Edinburgh, but the downside is that some of those activities can be quite expensive. Visitors have to pay admission fees to most places of interest like Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood Palace.

However, there are a number of things which budget travelers can do in order save money on their trip - and then afford to see these sights!

Accommodation

Firstly, it makes sense to book a bed or a room at an Edinburgh hostel if you intend to spend a lot of time around the city.

Visitors to the Scottish capital often enjoy doing nothing more than walking around town or having a pint in one of the city's numerous pubs.

As a result, they end up spending very little time in their accommodation and often regret shelling out on somewhere they only went back to at night.

Edinburgh Pass

Visitors can enjoy the city's attractions for less via the Edinburgh Pass, which offers free entry to 30 of the city's top sights.

Typical savings from the pass are £10 ($15) for a one-day or £20 ($30) for a three-day pass. Prices vary according to how many days you wish the pass to be valid.

For those on group travel, this pass is an excellent way to save money and to take in the cultural heritage of the Scottish capital.

The Edinburgh Pass can be bought online or at one of the numerous Tourist Information Centers around the city - just ask staff at one of the hostels in Edinburgh where to head.

Free Attractions

Entry to the National Galleries - home to some of the great pieces of Scottish, British and western European art ranging from the Middle Ages to the 21st century - is free!

Located just off Princes Street, the complex is comprised of the National Gallery of Scotland, the Royal Scottish Academy Building, the Scottish Portrait Gallery and two Modern Art Galleries. Featured artists include Titian, Raphael, Van Gogh, Dali, Picasso and Warhol.

And there's plenty more to see outdoors, too - Edinburgh is nestled amongst some of the UK's most attractive and dramatic scenery. You can head up to the top of Arthur's Seat for fantastic views back down to the city, as well as the countryside beyond.
