Technology is changing and it seems like every New Year is showing new advances. However, there are more than just features which get technology buffs happy, in fact technology in entertainment has and has taken massive shifts which could cause the decline of PC's.

When PC's started to become popular, you could only buy them in beige. PC's did there thing, and didn't seem like they would advance to be personal entertainment systems and not just computers. This made a good place for gaming consoles, because it allowed great graphics, and great game play, which was harder for computers to compete with.

Then Sony brought out the original PlayStation, and a lot changed. Gaming improved and 2d became 3d. On computers, computers also started to have an evolution. The iMac heralded the change from a geeky beige computer to a colorful entertainment system.

This change has progressed further, and we see that we expect more out of PC's than we used to. Now, we want the computer to be an entertainment system.

A massive change has happened and that is with high definition. Television sets in the past, used to be good for films, but if you tried to connect a computer up to the TV, you would find that the resolution was not sufficient to use your PC and TV together.

Today high definition is taking over, and the truth is that now we have the technology, where we need more of connectivity between different systems. We want to have gaming with the same sound system we would listen to music with. We want to be able to do things with our computer on a big television set.

The question is - can the PC keep up? It possibly can, however, recently I have looked at the possibilities of what an ideal home entertainment system would be like. And you know what; the PC may not be up to scratch.

Gaming consoles are indeed changing. First Microsoft's Xbox took the world by storm with hard drives and a system which looked like it was bending towards being a multipurpose machine, rather than solely being a gaming system.

The Sony PlayStation 3 is the latest advance, which is making major bounds in what a gaming system can do. The Sony PlayStation 3 goes further and allows you to install Windows, and you can even install Linux!

This makes the Sony PlayStation 3 a major contender to being that main machine which allows full entertainment. The PS3 allows you to do so much more, and is a good contender for the PC. Nice and neat, it sits near your television set, and with high definition, and an internet connection, this could be the future of computing.
