How To Survive Long Term Following A Disaster

Disaster preparedness and survival situations are fascinating to some people. Many times there are discussions, mostly theoretical, about what one would really need to survive long term if society came to a collapse at some point in time. Much of the discussion is based on what one would actually need for that situation. No doubt there are items that are needed, but many times these discussions miss a big point.

If one wants to survive long term, then they must have a means of production. This means that one has to eventually have a system that will produce goods and resources as opposed to storing them up and hoping they don't run out. If you have production, you are going to make whatever you have last much longer.

This is the difference between having a retirement account where you spend the money gradually versus having an annuity that pays out year after years. The annuity is like the means of production as something will always be there.

For survivalism, this means that one must look into things like like food production, water purification, and other skills. One must understand gardening and food preservation to be able to make it just like those who came to America in recent centuries had to do year after year. An important area of study to consider is colonial life and the bare essential methods for many of their day to day tasks without advanced tools.

While the technology and equipment can be fun to talk about, don't forget the practical things like gardening and preservation during these types of discussions. Know how to produce and you will have a much easier time in any situation regardless if it's a long term situation or not. At the very least, you will have the skill to produce for yourself all year long regardless if it's a disaster or not
