Is your car's smoke emission more than its efficiency? Well, in a way you're adding to the already existing pollution problem which in turn will hamper our health. You need to model the combustion system of your vehicle in such a way that it pumps up your car's engine efficiency.

Cutting down on fuel combustion will not only increase your vehicle's engine efficiency but will also help you in saving fuel and controlling pollution to a large extent. With the government and customers paying more attention to engine efficiency and pollution, car manufacturers are under tremendous stress. The car engineers are now opting for a new software to design and test ideas before finalizing on the engine types.

Low emissions are what customers have started demanding and car manufacturers are trying to fit their list of demands. Building a low emission and combustion engine requires a fundamental understanding of the kinetics.

Let us first understand what we mean by engine efficiency. It is the amount of power generated when compared to the energy input. This is measured with regards to the total amount of fuel combusted by the vehicle. The average combustion engine manages to convert only 20 per cent of the fuel into power. The rest is thrown out of the vehicle as harmful emissions.

With more and more people being interested in energy efficiency and not just in cutting emissions, the engineers are trying to build engines which are high in efficiency and low on emissions. Using bio-fuels, liquefied natural gas, synthetic gases derived from coal and hydrogen instead of petrol or diesel helps in bring down the emission levels and in turn increases your vehicle.

Hydrogen fuel cell enabled cars have shown more efficiency than normal fuel driven cars. This is mainly because these fuel cells do not have any moving parts and therefore are more reliable and less likely to fail. Besides, hydrogen fuel cells driven cars have low combustion rates and high engine efficiency.

Similarly, zero emission vehicles are also a good way to help reduce combustion rates and in turn increase your vehicle's efficiency. These models function with the help of electricity and run with a range of about 250 miles. Besides this, they are simple to maintain and you can also cut down on the fuel expense.

BMW came up with a way of recovering waste heat energy to help power the car. It designed a system wherein the waste heat was used to produce high-pressure steam. Heat was then extracted from the exhaust pipe and the steam produced was used to help turn the engine shaft.

According to BMW, this system helps improve the overall efficiency by about 15 per cent. The net result of an efficient engine is good vehicle performance, a lot of savings as far as monetary aspects are concerned... and yes a happy you!
