Muscle relaxation is crucial for pain relief, as pain is usually caused by muscle tension (even tension headaches). Sometimes joint pain is mainly due to the muscles clamping too tightly over joints, causing them to rub together more than is good. The solution? Hydrotherapy and spa hot tubs can somewhat relieve stress on affected muscles and bones by making you feel weightless - and this can lead to considerable relief of the symptoms of fibromyalgia and arthritis, and other conditions.

The body has many ways of clearing away wastes. One strategy is through sweating. Since the water in a hottub is so warm, it promotes sweating, which helps get rid of some of the build up of toxins in your body.

Two added advantages to time spent in a hot tub include the release of endorphins throughout your whole body by the heat and pressure that the pulsating jets supply. Endorphins are a natural product that is produced by your body and it is considered a "happy drug". It makes us feel great and decreases the amount of pain you are able to feel. A soothing massage from the jets also helps the relaxation of your total body.

There are a few warnings that should be thought through. First of all, the vasodilatation, or opening up of the blood vessels, that occurs slightly increases the temperature of your body and can raise your full body temperature possibly as high as 102 degrees. This is not safe for too long a period of time, so it is recommended that you only remain in the hot tub or spa for up to a quarter of an hour. Listening to your body is a key way to keep yourself safe.

Even though hottub water therapy will lower blood pressure, it at the beginning, at least, increases it due to the heart wanting to get rid of the extra heat out of your body. That means that people who have blood pressure problems (especially if your doctor has prescribed multiple medications) should speak with their physicians before taking advantage of hot tub therapy. Some other medical conditions may prevent hot tubs from being the healthiest method of relaxation. Ask your doctor!
