Having a small kitchen can be painful. It's so difficult just to function in such a small kitchen space, that the thought of actually decorating it seems like almost impossible. The space in the kitchen can be best utilized by laying out the three primary working areas in an efficient and skilful manner. These three areas include the food storage area; the counter to chop, dice or do other food preparations and cooking area.

More than any other room of the house, the kitchen is undoubtedly the most versatile. It is used to prepare meals, feed the family, store foods and clean and stow service ware and other household items. It serves as the family gathering place, and basically is the centrepiece of the home. Therefore, it is important that when attempting to remodel, all kitchen ideas be taken into consideration. This is especially applicable when space is limited, and kitchen remodelling cost is a concern.

When it comes to decorating counter tops, try not to keep those pretty canisters out in the open. Try to push them to the back of the counter so that it does not hinder your workspace for chopping vegetables and the like. You can also try filling bare countertop corner space with an attractive vignette such as a lovely platter or bowl plus some colorful fresh produce. Apples, pears, lemons, limes, oranges, tomatoes and peppers are excellent choices. Additionally, a pretty crock, decorative flowerpot or cute cookie jar can be ideal for the counter top. In making kitchen countertops look more attractive it is essential that all scrubbing gear such as brushes and steel wool pads are out of sight. Try putting them in a bowl or other container under the sink. To add that touch of splendid charm, set out a small vase of fresh flowers. Push it toward the back of the counter where it's less likely to be toppled or broken.

When contemplating decorating small kitchen areas one should ideally try to select slender appliances when shopping. These tend to maximise space on counter tops without taking away the facilities they offer. Additionally with more sleek appliances one does not have the hassle of taking in and out the cabinet with each use, or limiting counter space if you're too lazy to put it back. Also stainless steel door inserts on top cabinets tend to have a reflective quality. Basically the stainless steel look helps magnify the space quite a bit. There are also stainless-steel counters available with a brushed pattern that minimizes the appearance of scratches.
