While this article is not meant to take sides in the matter, it is hoped that the Real Madrid hierarchy will note that they are fast losing ground to their archrivals, Barcelona FC. The Catalan club has won the league title for the past two seasons, and the European champions league this past season. They have impressed many and won many fans worldwide due to their good current form. They have also climbed up the earnings ladder to become the second richest in the world.

According to Dan Jones of Deloitte, who released the earnings report, Madrid, who have made fortunes from David Beckham's image rights, again lead the field of richest clubs in the world with a total revenue of £202 million, with Barcelona climbing up to second from sixth. He said "The two clubs have had contrasting strategies, with Real focusing on driving commercial revenue from recruiting its 'Galactico' players and Barcelona having a more balanced revenue profile,"

Now, with virtually all the galacticos gone, the commercial benefits from them have ended too. The club now has to focus on making money by winning trophies, which in turn will enhance it's earning potentials.

The team has to reinvent itself and prepare for the demands of winning the Spanish league as well as doing well in Europe. While the future of the new coach appears hazy, as reports suggest he will be replaced in the summer, the whole team must be ready to do what it takes to return to winning ways once again.

The dressing room and boardroom rifts that have been so much highlighted by the press in recent times must be effectively dealt with. A divided house cannot win anything, as the past seasons have shown. The club's handlers must find a balance between soothing individual egos, satisfying individual interests and doing what is good for the club.

A situation where the club president and manager clearly resents some players for what they earn, or for other reasons, and they make no pretences at hiding it will not augur well for the club. Diplomacy and tact is a functional part of managing players, and these should be applied in such cases.

If the team as a whole can unite and give their best, then this season is not yet over for Real Madrid FC. They can still win a trophy, even the champions league.
