Why You May Not Be Getting Full Value From Dietary Supplements

Did you know that your environment has a dramatic effect on your ability to uptake vitamins and minerals in your body, even in supplement form? It is not only scientifically sound, it makes sense to anyone who has done research on the area of health and nutrition.

These days, over 50% of people in Western Countries take some sort of Multivitamin supplement. Many spend hundreds of dollars a month on them. If you are spending your valuable money on these products, wouldn't you want to know that you are getting value for your money. The shocking truth is that if your body is challenged by toxins and heavy metals, you just simply can't get full value from your nutritional supplements!

There is overwhelming evidence that our planet is not as pristine as it used to be. Even at the North Pole samples taken from under the polar ice cap show evidence of DDT and other toxic chemicals. Anyone who works in the mining industry has been overexposed to lead, arsenic or other deadly toxins. Indeed, for most in this profession, their working life is limited due to the onset of disease caused by these toxins. Dangerous metals are found in fish, water pipes, deodorant, paint, cookware, dental fillings, carpets, automobiles, etc. The fact is that these days we are exposed to a dangerous cocktail of metals and toxins, many of which didn't even exist in our grandparent's day.

A recent study tested the following toxins in a group of 10 subjects. · the plasticizing chemicals known as phthalates

· the flame retardants PBDEs

· the heavy metals: lead, arsenic, and mercury

· perfluorinated chemicals like those used to make Teflon

· pesticides, and

· banned, but persistent, PCBs and DDT.

All 10 subjects showed the presence of 26 of the 39 toxins tested including mercury in all 10. There is plenty of other evidence to suggest we all suffer from excess toxins in our bodies.

There are numerous studies and reports on what is happening to our health as a result of our toxic environment. You can do something about this once you understand where toxins come from and how they affect us. It is a subject that is too important to ignore.

So why has the medical profession largely ignored this?

Well, I was horrified when I started to look at solution to ridding the body of unwanted metals and toxins. I spoke to my local health department about this. An hour from my place there used to be a lead smelter, and many children have learning difficulties as a result. The answer I received is that we can clean up the environment, and wait for lead levels to drop in the children. The only alternative was very expensive and possibly dangerous "chelation therapy." This must be done under a Doctor's supervision and requires supplementary vitamin injections. One would have to think long and hard before considering this option.

Then there is the Natural Health approach. Provide large quantities of antioxidants and cleanse the colon of waste, seems to be the preferred option here. Antioxidants have been shown to neutralize the free radicals produced by toxins and this way they limit the damage. Unfortunately, they don't efficiently remove them from the body, so the process is very slow.

Recently, Clinoptilolite, a form of natural Zeolite has been found to soak up toxins in the body and pass them our quickly and efficiently. These ancient volcanic minerals when activated, are extremely efficient and remove the toxins and metals without unwanted side effects. By attracting toxins in the body and trapping them in a cage, they render dangerous toxins and metals harmless before removing them.
