As the year comes to an end and the stresses of 2010 are starting to take a visible toll on your looks, you may be looking for a way to look young and vibrant this Christmas.

With all the parties and festivities with colleagues, friends and families on the horizon you may be looking to get some kind of anti-wrinkle treatment so that you can help lose the frown lines and look fabulous this festive period.

There are many forms of anti-wrinkle treatment on the market in the forms of creams and lotions, laser treatments and injections that can help to give you younger looking skin.

To those in the know creams are not often seen as a successful way to lose the lines and do not make a visible difference to the skin, however some, such as Boots No7 Protect and Perfect, have been clinically tested and shown to work through helping users skin to produce fibrillin, a protein that makes skin more elastic.

Another treatment that can be used to wipe out wrinkles is skin tightening. This treatment makes use of lasers to restore tautness and tone the skin. Skin tightening procedures take place in a clinic and a practitioner will guide the laser to the treatment areas as required. The laser creates a high-intensity beam that penetrates tissue and stimulates collagen getting rid of lines and wrinkles and leaving you with a more youthful look.

As well as the two aforementioned treatments there are a variety of injections that can be used to combat wrinkles. They are good at slowing down the effects of ageing and are a good non-surgical alternative to facelifts or brow lifts.

All of these treatments use a fine needle that is injected into the mid to deep dermis of your face dependent on the results you are looking for.

There are different types of injections that you can get and there are three in particular that are worth looking into.

Juvéderm - This a smooth gel made of hyaluronic acid. This is a substance that is naturally occurring in skin and helps to add volume and hydration. Hyaluronic acid molecules help to add volume as they can hold up to 1000 times their mass in water, which allows them to add volume and fill out depressions in the skin. In order to make the treatment more comfortable lidocaine, a local anaesthetic, is also contained within the gel.

Botox - This uses the Botulinum Toxin which is a protein that weakens muscles that wrinkle the skin. It works by injecting a fine amount with a very fine needle into different muscles in the face. The muscles injected will correspond with the areas of your face that move as you frown and the Botox will work to block electrical signals from the brain to the muscle allowing it to relax and let the wrinkled skin heal.

Sculptra - This is a synthetic biocompatible material that is easily broken down by the body. It works by using Poly-L-lactic acid (which has been used for over 25 years in medicine to treat skin disorders and facial fat loss) to stimulate tissues to create collagen, giving greater volume to the areas injected. The body reacts to the particles by creating collagen. As the reaction happens tissues will start to thicken re-volumising the face.

There are plenty of successful anti-wrinkle treatments that you could treat yourself to this Christmas. I'll leave you to choose the best!
