With increasing rumours of it's imminent launch, Sony Ericsson have finally lifted the lid on their new wafer thin 3G Walkman phone, the W880i. At only 9.4mm thick and weighing a remarkably light 72g, the W880i is thinner than a CD case, placing it in the same league as the super slim Motorola RAZR and some of Samsung's wafer thin phones.

The Sony Ericsson W880i comes kitted out with 2 cameras - a 2 megapixel one on the rear for shooting photos, and a VGA one on the front for video calls. The 1.8 inch 262k colour screen with 320x240 pixel resolution is remarkably sharp, but not as large as many others that can currently be found on the market - the slightly smaller screen will no doubt contribute to the phone's exceptionally lightweight qualities.

Music tracks can be stored on a 1GB Memory Stick card which comes supplied with the phone - enough to store roughly 900 songs. The excellent battery life on the W880i, provides up to 20 hours of music playback. Sadly, you won't be able to plug your favourite 3.5mm jack headphones directly into the phone, however you can plug them into the headphone cable provided - just make sure you don't lose it! The W880i comes with an enhanced version of the Walkman music player plus Stereo Bluetooth so you can wirelessly transmit music to a pair of compatible headphones. Unlike some other models from the Walkman range, the phone doesn't feature an FM radio - this may come as a slight disappointment to some music fans, but there must be some limits to what you can cram into something slimmer than a CD case!

Other features to be found on the W880i are similar to those one would find on Sony Ericsson's current Walkman phones - a decent multimedia player, web browser, email access, and streaming video to mention a few.

To conclude, the W880i is Sony Ericsson's slimmest ever Walkman phone to date - it makes their previous music phone offerings such as the 850i look incredibly chunky and brick like in comparison! It is anticipated that the W880i will become available in 'Steel Silver' and 'Flame Black' options sometime towards the end of March.
