Energy companies and the government need to do more to rescue the increasing number of UK citizens falling or who have already fallen into the fuel poverty situation. There is a predicament which needs to be sorted out before any solution can be reached which is already a hot talking point in the House of Commons.

The Energy companies need to make more money in order to build more power stations and as a result they will be able to reduce fuel costs. The government need the fuel costs to be reduced to in order to stop the UK citizens falling into fuel poverty. This is not helped with the price of oil increasing and the current credit crunch.

The government has introduced a windfall tax forcing the energy companies to fork out millions to the in a bid to control the high amounts of money they are making. This would only force the gas and electricity companies to increase prices again in order for them to make enough money to build new power stations.

Not only would the windfall result in increased household gas and electricity prices, it would deter foreign investors from investing into the energy companies and therefore it would take longer to generate the cash to build the stations.

The gas and electricity companies have agreed to invest up to £150 million over the next three years into ensuring people are not sucked into the fuel poverty situation. The government thinks they can do more, such as investing into energy saving technology for homes.
