I have been thinking about what my next article should be for a while now, it seems that I have a writers block going here, but I'll get over that, I usually do, and then it's time to write more wonderful car wisdom, and hope somebody, well that is besides me will want to read it, I have decided to write not about any one car in particular, but about what the whole idea behind building a custom car is, well in my eyes any way.
I know that if your planning on restoring a car, which by the way, is a custom car build, I'm sure that at least one time, you've had another person tell you that if you don't return your car to completely, absolutely factory stock original, that your car will be worthless, this is 100% crap, the only time tour car will be worth anything to you, is if it is exactly what you think it should be, and id this means that you customize it, there is nothing wrong with doing it.
Your car should make you happy, not the purest down the street, or your mom, cousin, or somebody else, it only need to impress you, is it going to be them driving your car, or you, I say do everything that you want to do to it, upgrade the suspension, transmission, and drive train to the most modern smooth efficient, and precise pieces that you can afford to buy, do what you want to do with your car.
Just make sure that you keep all the old parts that you pull off of the car, well the good parts, just so in case you do decide to sell it, and you get one of those purest wanting to buy it, you can give him all the old original parts, so he can make a factory stock original car out of it again, but a car is a very personal thing, and the only person who should make up your mind on how you want it to look, is you.
I've worked in this business for a long time, and if there is one thing that I have seen a lot of, it's the guy getting his car restored, to all factory stock, and then deciding that he doesn't like it, and he then sells it one or two years after it's finished, and then is disgusted with the whole idea of ever doing any custom work on a car again, and just learns to hate them all together, this is what I try to avoid happening when people build a car.
It's your car, so do yourself a favor, and make it what you want it to be, what you think it should be, and then one day maybe you'll be handing that great work of art down to your son, and telling him the story of how you found that car, and built it in to just what you always wanted it to be, not of how you built it in to what somebody else told you to, and you got sick of it and sold it off.
