Gary Dourdan has been a mainstay on the CBS hit drama CSI: Crime Scene Investigation since it premiered back in October of 2000. He plays Warrick Brown in the ensemble cast which includes veterans William Peterson, Marg Helgenberger and Paul Guilfoyle. The original series set in Las Vegas, has been a consistent top rater and is still the strongest and most solid of the three CSI shows. CSI has given rise to two spin-offs, CSI: Miami and CSI: NY.

CSI has become the premier forensic drama series since it started and while many have followed in its steps, the Las Vegas show continues to set the bar, not only for its franchise but for the genre as well.

There have been upsides and downsides to the show's success and popularity. The science of forensics has gained a massive following due to the show's focus and format. Dourdan recounts that he has received mixed feedback regarding the impact of the show. He recalls how young fans, especially kids, have approached him to ask about forensic criminology while law enforcers have expressed some frustration over the amount of inside information criminals can gather from the episodes. "There's some good and bad to it I suppose," Dourdan explained. "That's what we get from law enforcement all the time, criminals watch our shows, this is what to see what not to do!" Because of the highly specific and scientific elements to the forensics involved in the show's episodes, many trade secrets and investigative tools have become public knowledge, potentially giving would-be criminals and lawbreakers an edge at eluding capture and persecution.

Despite some of the drawbacks, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation remains a formidable force in the ratings game. It is also the only one of the three CSI shows to retain all of its original cast throughout its seven seasons. This has allowed its stars, including Dourdan, to learn a great deal about the world of forensic criminology. He says that despite its run, there hasn't been a shortage of new things to assimilate and learn because the writers and producers are always giving them new material, stories, plots and science to work with.
