Don't forget to be yourself and throw in some things going on in your life as well. Once you have a decent amount of followers (you can get several/day with very little work), post an article about the power of Twitter and some quick tactics you can implement to fully utilize twitter.

Depending on the uniqueness and actionable information, people will see that it's a great time for them to start "tweeting" and sign up to twitter while following you.
