Have you ever attended a speech course that is aimed at overcoming a stutter? Have you ever thought about attending one of these type of speech courses? Has speech therapy proven to be beneficial in helping you to cure your stutter? In this article I am going to be writing about the various stuttering treatments and about which people are likely to benefit from attending a speech course.

There are two types of speech course for stuttering, the first is a group course. This is where around twenty people, all of which have some form of stuttering problem, will attend a course which is normally over five-days. These can be of great benefit to people who have a natural confidence, despite having a stutter. These type of people are likely to ask a lot of questions and may become a form of leader to the group.

Most people who stutter do not fall into this category and are actually quite shy. The stutter can destroy their self-esteem and these people therefore may be quite quiet during the course. They could attempt to hide and will not fully benefit from the course in comparison to the more confident course member.

Then there is a one-to-one course. These are more likely to be of use to most people, whatever their level of confidence. There is no hiding place on a one-to-one course.

As you may well be able to tell, I would always advise people to attend a one-to-one course. Whichever course you choose, it is important, in my opinion, to ensure that the person who is running the course is a former stutterer themselves.
