With the number of different types of skin care products you see around you, you might think that these items have grown in popularity as technological advances came about. While it is true that only recently have these skin care products been deemed very essential to keep oneself young looking. In this busy and competitive world, the fact is that even cave men and cave women had their own methods of caring for their skin.

As the prehistoric human didn't enjoy the accommodations that we all have today, it was vital for them to find ways to protect themselves and their skin from severe weather conditions. Skin care is not to be confused with cosmetic activities. The latter is intended to make your face more beautiful and better looking, whereas the former is for the purpose of protecting your skin from disease as well as irritation or infection.

Therefore, skin care was more of medicinal. People in the past needed skin care products as they were exposed to all types of weather, and today we need to care for our skin to combat skin problems caused by toxins and the pollutants that have created. The types of skin care products that people need have of course changed as the way people choose to live their lives has also changed drastically. The kind of work that men and women have to perform has a huge influence on the kind of caring the skin requires. In addition, the food that we eat today and the lifestyle we choose to live can also determine what skin care products we need.

It should also be remembered that skin care is not limited to the use of products that are applied to the skin, such as ointments, creams, and so on. There are several types of diets that are intended to address skin care issues. The idea of skin care has indeed existed since the earliest civilizations. It is proof that human beings have always been in search for ways not only to look better, but also to feel better about themselves.
