Visit Alicante And Torrevieja In Spain!
If you're thinking about taking a vacation, Torrevieja, Spain, has something for everyone. Located in the province of Alicante, Torrevieja is located on the east coast of Spain, in the Costa Blanca area, on the Mediterranean Sea. It's easily accessible to visitors, as it's approximately 35 kilometers from the international airport in Alicante. A wide variety of transportation is available once you arrive, as well. Rental cars, public bus service, airport/hotel shuttles and taxi services are all nearby.
Costa Blanca, or "White Coast", is an expanse of beaches, resorts and other tourist attractions. It stretches from Torrevieja in the south, up along the coastline through Benidorm, one of the most popular resort areas in Spain, ending in Denia, a coastal mountain town.
Torrevieja, which translates to "old tower", was named after the only structure in town, an ancient guard tower. Today, it's famous for its salt exports. The tourism and fishing industry round out the top three most important sources of revenue for the area's economy. The city boasts an entire coastline of sandy beaches, as well as a variety of shopping and dining opportunities.
Day Trips
Benidorm, the most popular town on the Costa Blanca, is populated by over 1000 restaurants and 30 discos. It's also home to the some of the best theme parks in the country. The Terra Mitica amusement park is based upon the ancient cultures of Greece, Egypt, Rome and Iberia. Aqualandia is a water park that features the largest water slide in the world, and Mundomar is a premier marine and exotic animal park. This city is a great place for all-around fun. You can visit the attractions during the day, and partake in the exciting nightlife in the evening!
The Lagoons of La Mata are popular with tourists as well. It's best to make reservations to visit this natural sanctuary, as admittance is limited to 35 people at a time. It's home to many unique birds, such as the stone curlew, the avocet and the flamingo. The two lagoons here, La Mata and the Torrevieja, are connected to the Mediterranean Sea by two man-made channels. The sea water flows into the shallow basins of water, to be warmed by the sun. When the water evaporates, it leaves behind salt, to the tune of one million tons per year. This salt is exported for use throughout the world.
You could certainly keep yourself busy with all the attractions these cities offer. If you'd like to explore further, rent a car and enjoy a picturesque trip up the Costa Blanca to Santa Pola, or even further to cities like Javea and Denia, which offer beautiful views and popular points of interest. One thing is for sure: You'll never get bored!
