Nokia Booklet 3G More like a miniature laptop than a phone, the Nokia Booklet 3G is Nokias attempt to break free from the traditional mobile handset market and compete with the growing range of netbooks currently available. The first thing that strikes you about the Booklet 3G is just how surprisingly small it is. Measuring approximately 12 inches long and weighing just 1.2 kg it is very easy to carry around, a key factor in purchasing such a device. The 10" shows a resolution of 1280 x 720. The keyboard is located very closely to the screen, meaning that below the keypad there is a substantial area for your hands near the trackball, helping to make the machine comfortable to use. The Booklet 3G incorporates a 120GB hard drive alongside 1GB of RAM, obviously far superior to even the most advanced mobile phones, but then again considerably less than on many laptops and Netbooks currently available, which is where my only concern does tend to lie, is this an oversized mobile or and underpowered laptop? The fact that the booklet 3G doesn't allow you to make calls means I tend to think of it as the latter, which means the device really does have to win over people in the looks and functionality stakes to really make any significant impact, but more of that later. An Intel Atom Z530, 1.6Ghz processor is included as is a 1.3 mega pixel webcam. The Nokia Booklet 3G is mostly constructed from aluminium, which is a factor in its light overall weight. The backplate is made of an attractive gloss plastic which should be available in three colour finishes. In terms of connectivity the unit is well covered. Three USB ports, a 3.5mm stereo jack and an HDMI socket are included, the latter is particularly useful for connection to the modern range of high definition televisions and cameras. There is also a 3G module on the side where you insert your service providers sim card. In addition to the 3G facilities, the Booklet is also equipped with WiFi b/g/n and bluetooth. A neat feature is the inclusion of a Nokia button. When pressed is accesses Nokia's Social Hub, an app which enables you to manage your social networking profiles and SMS messages at the same time. Battery life is an impressive 7 hours with heavy internet use. Amongst the host of Netbooks currently available, the Nokia Booklet 3G sits proudly at the top of the pile thanks to is impressive styling, excellent specification and inclusion of Windows 7. The Nokia Booklet 3G and the new Nokia X6 are coming soon.
