Focus on One Thing at a Time

"Life is what happens to you while you are busy making other plans" -John Lennon

Do you ever suffer from this: you have SO many ideas and brilliant brain waves about your business or private life, you just don't know where to start……… You are reading 7 books simultaneously, have about 4 projects all screaming for your attention, start up about 1 new idea per week, and are overloaded with opportunities to take on even more just about daily. You are juggling all balls in the air, feeling stressed, feeling overwhelmed, and.............. hardly anything gets finished…………….

Although it doesn't look like it on the face of it, this behaviour is a -very subtle- form of procrastination. The procrastination lies in the fact that although a lot seems to be going on in your business and life, nothing really happens. There is a lot of dust, but little movement. Some of you will remember the Looney Tunes cartoon of the "Tasmanian Devil", that creature that -when he gets angry- starts swirling and twirling around frantically, grumbling and growling and kicking up dust………and that's it. No constructive results, no solutions, just a lot of activity. Having idea-itis falls under the same category. You don't get much done, but can justify maintaining the situation by pointing at the seeming buzzing activity that goes on around you. It MUST be good!! You MUST be achieving something!!

Not.

What you need to realise is that being a scatter-brain, holding 10 balls up in the air and acting very busy will only attract more of the same. The Law of Attraction (you should know about this one by now; if not, jump on my website www.landmarc.info and read the article "The Power of Doing Nothing" and "The Art of Procrastination") provides you with more of the exact thing you are focusing on. If that is busy-ness, you will receive more busy-ness.

The way out is to set 1 to 3 clear goals, and to break them down into bite sized chunks. For about 3 to 6 months, stick with your chosen goals, finish what you have started, and then move on to a new project. I can guarantee you: you will love yourself for it!

Set a Landmarc:

Firstly: Find out where you are hiding behind "busy-ness". Get very clear about areas in your life and work where there seems to be a profusion of things to do, but little or no tangible results (for a longer period of time).

Secondly: Cross out nearly everything, until you are left with 1-3 projects which really mean a lot to you, and which you want to get finished.

Thirdly: Set yourself a time frame of about 3-6 months, work out (on paper!) what needs to be done when to be finished by the set time, and start working on action steps to actually meet that deadline.

Lastly: Stay focused and take action. Stick with what you have set out to do, and be very aware of pitfalls you may have created for yourself. It's very easy to follow the old line of thinking/acting if you let your awareness drop.

New behaviours and beliefs are formed by creating them and sticking to them. It's like a little seedling: it doesn't look like much yet, but it is definitely growing. You have to see the potential, and focus on its growth. If you can, you can rest assured that something beautiful will emerge. Trust that process!

Go well, feel well and be well.
