Behind the Scenes

The Bush presidency has gone from lame duck to cooked goose. It happens to every second term and sometimes first term incumbent presidents. They are written off as gone, done, over with and no longer a threat to ones future career; however, with Barack Obama, this concept has been taken to a new level. Obama is the force behind the scenes (many of them).

Everyone at the weekend Economic Summit wanted to meet the president-elect, but, Obama is being especially cautious about the economic summit, letting President George W. Bush represent the nation. But in the Democratic radio address Saturday, Obama subtly made the point that the summit was only a beginning. "I'm glad President Bush has initiated this process because our global economic crisis requires a coordinated global response," he said.

The operative word is "initiated". Obama will finish it.

Then there's the Congress that's being called back into a post election session. Congressional leaders are making it clear that any massive recovery plan will have to wait until next year. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, in letter to Republican leader Mitch McConnell on Friday, indicated the Senate's work this coming week will be limited to proposals to increase unemployment benefits and to the more complicated task of rescuing Detroit's automakers with a $25 billion emergency loan. Let's let all the economic troubles be laid at the feet of the current administration.  :-)

Then there's the United Nations.

The U.S. President historically speaks at the opening session in the fall; however, they want to hear from Obama right after he takes the oath of office. It's as though the world can't wait for Obama to begin ruling! Even the current world leaders want Obama to weigh in on the economic crisis.

On the global front, Obama has acknowledged the need for a coordinated international response to the crisis. But some foreign allies have their own detailed plans. British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, for instance, has made a case for beefed up role for the International Monetary Fund and has called for global regulators to be watchdogs over the world's largest financial institutions.

One has to wonder what Barack is thinking. What did he get himself into? Can anyone meet the expectations that's being set for him around the lgobe? Behind the scenes there has to be a lot going on in the head of one Barack Hussein Obama!

As a spiritual-futurist, I interpret current events in light of possible macro-universal forces at play leading up to 2012, but not limited to it.
