Aromatherapy is based on the use of essential oils. Only the highest quality of essential oils should be used in aromatherapy. Think of aromatherapy essential oils in the same way that you would olive oil. When buying olive oil you know that you will pay more for extra virgin, virgin etc. Why? The oil is coming from first pressings and then second pressings. Essential oils are extracted by steam but the same principle applies. Unfortunately not all ready-made aromatherapy products labelled with the word aromatherapy are pure and natural. The message is you get what you pay for. You may have to use 6 drops of the cheaper oil to one of the better quality essential oil.

There are several ways that aromatherapy essential oils are used: massage, baths, compresses or inhalation. When they are used in massage and bathing, essential oils are absorbed though the skin into the bloodstream but if the therapy required is inhalation what is the best method? This can be accomplished with candles, inhalers, or diffusers. An aromatherapy diffuser is by far the best method.

A diffuser, as the name implies, disperses aromatherapy scents around a room. The most useful have a cotton filter that absorbs a few drops of your desired essential oil and a small fan blowing air through the filter to spread the aroma. The fan based diffusers have the benefit that the aromas are spread quickly around a room and are not tainted, for example, by the smell of candle wax burning.

When the scent of the essential oil is released into the room you will experience many benefits, aromatherapy diffusers are able to provide maximum therapeutic effects both to the body and the mind. Those benefits depend upon what you are trying to achieve. Do you need the relaxing soporific scent of lavender, the healing properties of tea tree or the refreshing citrus scent of lemon? Essential oils can be blended together for a specific purpose. Always use a blend recommended by a professional practitioner and take care when using on skin. Do not be fooled, it may only look a small drop of oil but good quality oil is very concentrated and therefore very strong.

Aromatherapy diffusers can be used as natural air fresheners in rooms and cars (not lavender while driving!) which are guaranteed to avoid allergic reactions to vulnerable people.

Many people are discovering the numerous untold benefits of aromatherapy diffusers and essential oils.

Why don't you try using an aromatherapy diffuser with a good quality essential oil to improve your own well being?
