Before I met my wife I had never even considered going on a cruise. The reason being I had always thought of cruising as a "couples" oriented vacation, along with the constant "on the go" type of movement made it seem more exhausting then relaxing.

Eight years and six cruises later I can tell you that my first thoughts of a cruise vacation are the furthest thing from reality. If you are single, I don't believe there is any other better type of vacation to go on then a cruise. I witnessed hundreds of singles and many parties and activities to meet at and get acquainted. If you are married like me you also meet a great number of people that are married, the same age and with many of the same interests.

My first thoughts of a cruise being an "on the go" not relaxing vacation were also wrong. Sure you at different ports either everyday or every other day, but this is valuable for a number of reasons. This gave me and my wife a way to get a taste of many different places without having to spend a great deal of time in any one of them. This way if we weren't crazy about a certain location, we knew that it would not be one that we would like to stay at for any serious length of time in the future. On the other hand, if we did hit a location that we absolutely enjoyed, we marked it down as a place to spend four days to a week at in the future.

With every cruise we went on there were always "days at sea". What this means is that for the entire day the ship is sailing toward the next destination, therefore you will spend the entire time on the ship. Before I went on a cruise the thought of spending your entire time on a ship for a whole day sounded painful. However, these cruise ships are floating cities. They have many restaurants filled with good food, they have dozens of places to shop on board, and any activity you can think of from bingo, to arcade games, to playing basketball on the top deck, to yes, the ever important laying by the pool to work on your tan. It is all available to you.

If you are fortunate to cruise on one of the newer ships in a cruise line's fleet, chances you are will be lucky enough to experience some new changes they made to the pool areas. Some cruise lines have split up two pool areas so that one area is restricted to adults only and the other area is for all ages. If you are not traveling with kids, the adult area is a great way to get away from the kids playing in the pool and partaking in the many other activities the cruise line has set up for them.

Of course it doesn't matter which pool area you frequent there are plenty of bars and waiters to keep your glasses full of your favorite beverages both alcoholic and non-alcoholic.

So if you are considering a vacation anytime soon and have never thought of venturing into the world of cruising I would highly recommend it. My wife took me on one some eight years ago and I have been hooked ever since. ====================
