Taormina, Italy

Taormina is one of the best travel destinations in Italy's Sicily Island. It is known for its beautiful scenery and wonderful atmosphere that is liked by its many visitors. It lies high on the Monte Tauor Mountain above the Mediterranean Sea. This town is a hot vacation center for more than one hundred years. It is a historical place rich in history which extends to four centuries before the birth of Christ.

Taormina town and its location itself is an attraction for the visitors and you cannot forget the site of the town even before you enter it. It offers a lot of attractions and interesting activities to keep the visitors occupied and make their stay as pleasant and enjoyable as possible. This is a hilly place where the celebrities of the world come to rest and recharge their batteries.

Taormina is full of archeological sites and the Teatro Greco that lies on the right side of the town is the most important of them. When you want to take a walk you can stroll on the Corso Umberto which is the main thoroughfare of the town that is lined with many of the shops and restaurants that are famous for selling anything that a tourist will be attracted to buy.

The walking trails that extend up the mountains or the ones that lead down to the sea are a heaven for a health freak. You can walk miles and miles on these winding tracks and still your legs will ask for more due to the right mix of the air and the climate you get in Taormina with its intoxicating scenery. This gives a very refreshing effect to your mind and body.

If you are interested in history and arts the place you must visit is the Teatro Greco which in English means the Greek Theatre. This is the creation of the early Greeks and Romans who came to Sicily. This place is located at a perfect location with the backdrop of sea, the coastline and the smoking Mount Etna. Romans used this theatre in early centuries to stage their famous sporting spectacles. Now it is famous for the panoramic views around the town and hosts the summer festival of Taormina Arte.

Apart from this you have many types of interesting places such as the Naumachie. This is a huge wall with arched niches that conceal a large water cistern. For nature lovers Taormina offers the Trevelyan Gardens, a peaceful and pretty place for being with nature. Here you can relax with the panoramic views of Etna at a distance.

The town also has a small museum for you to explore. The Museo Archeologico which is located in the Badia Vecchia tower which itself is a talking point as it was built in the 14th century. You can also visit the Folklore Museum at Museo Sicilian d'Arte Tradizioni Popolari if you are looking for more culture to liven up your stay in Taormina.
