What Is Organic Food Exactly?

When many consumers hear about organic farming they may question what is organic food and why does it cost so much. They may consider the typically higher cost and determine the extra expense is not worth the benefits they perceive that is available with eating organic products. However, when looking at the benefits of using only what is organic food you have to look beyond the rice cakes and organic vegetables and consider the use of organic products to be a lifestyle change as well as a health and environmental advantage.
When trying to determine what is organic food, essentially it involves any food product that is grown in organically certified land without the use of any chemical treatments, either in fertilizers or in pesticides. Anything that is put on the ground or on the plants has to be from a natural source, without any type of chemical additives, even inadvertent additions. Since the lack of chemical fertilizer often reduces the yield of a field, the laws of supply and demand add to the costs, but so does insuring there is nothing unnatural being used in growing what is organic food.
To improve their crop, growers have previously utilized chemically enhanced fertilizers and pesticides. Also, because they were cheap,this was the favored way of enhancing and protecting crops for years. Many insect intruders were kept away by using pesticides. But this happened without regard for what is organic food, and a complete disregard for the surrounding water supplies.
Keeping Mother Nature On The Side Of Good Health
Before the chemical products were developed the farmers used natural resources to provide the world with food supplies, and they had no notion of what is organic food and why is it good for them. It is only after using chemically treated fertilizers for many years that people are realizing they should be utilizing less and less of these, because natural is not only good for them but for the planet as well.
Similar to a leaf falling from a tree in an untouched forest, that leaf will slowly be turned into natural fertilizer and help the growth of the surrounding trees. Without any interference, natural predators control insect pests from destroying fresh shoots as they continue their growth. This could be a good example of how nature nurtures plant growth to produce a healthier organic food, and promotes the Earth in becoming a healthier planet.
