Don't Fall For This Nasty Pick-Up Trick

Have you heard about the new dating book geared to men?

It's called The Mystery Method: The Foolproof Way to Get Any Woman You Want Into Bed. Charming, huh? Now, the author (who calls himself "Mystery;" apparently, he's not man enough to use his own name) has been a cultlike figure to certain guys for some time, and now he's getting tons of media attention for his creepy book.

If you're so inclined, check it out on Amazon. He's gotten plenty of testimonials from satisfied customers. But a recent article in The New York Times sums up Mystery's technique so you don't have to bother:

"Approach a group of women, having identified one of them as your target. Flirt with her friends. When she tries to speak, teasingly put her down ("negging"). After a bit, include her, and throw her a bone or two. [Mystery] calls these "IOI's" -- Indicators of Interest. But then, confuse her with a putdown or two -- "IOD's" (Indicators of Disinterest). If possible, enlist a "pivot" (a female conspirator) to make her jealous. Once you have her attention, subject her to rehearsed patter, then "bounce" her to another location to build "comfort." Soon, you will be able to bounce her to your love lair."

Please do not fall for this trick. If you're out and about and find that a strange man is insulting you, mentally brand the guy as the loser he clearly is. Back away slowly.

If you're in a relationship and find that your boyfriend continually puts you down, consider the possibility that he is desperately insecure and needs to "knock you down a peg" to feel better about himself. Do yourself a favor and hit the highway, Sister.

Men who put women down don't like--or understand-- women. The same goes for guys with Girls Gone Wild DVDs on their bookshelves. You deserve a man who loves you, respects you, and rejoices in your success and happiness.

He's out there, so hold out for him.
