Similar to race, class of African Americans cannot serve a strong enough background for bias formation. Instead, these are low income and all misfortunes and adverse effects on psychological that are associated with a lower class of a person that contribute to over diagnosis of schizophrenia.

Lack of parental care, poor diet and environment, unhealthy lifestyles, which are typical for lower class community, contribute to medical conditions that are often parallel with the diagnosis of schizophrenia. As only 25% of African Americans earn more then 50,000 annually, the vast majority is still living at poverty levels, which triple that of White population, and double that of population overall. Consequently, the majority of African Americans belongs to lower class and often experience medical conditions that contribute to misdiagnosis of schizophrenia including diabetes, obesity, asthma, sickle cell anemia, lupus, hypertension, and other. The general tendency to somatize emotional pain into physical illness associates with certainty among Blacks. When it comes to interpretation by White population, this is normally associated with laziness and irresponsibility.

Life of African Americans in urban ghettos is normally associated with the highest rates of medical, social, and psychiatric pathologies. As much as 83% percent of black population lives this style of life instantly experiencing internal stress, which is invisible and leads to psychological disorders or, in other words, racism - the omnipresent threat. Even those who strive to get out of ghettos to take a higher rank and status in a society experience significant difficulties on their way to the top. High school and college graduates often complain that they are not able to obtain a job they have trained due to racial prejudice and bias.
