The world is changing and it is changing fast. Information is getting easier to obtain but is the information true and accurate? Or is it not true but accurate? Or is it both untrue and inaccurate.
Unfortunately this is what the Internet is bringing to us. News, about us, individuals posted by who? Ex-spouses, Ex-Lovers, Ex-Friends, and even relatives are the ones who are posting this information. Much of what is posted is malicious and even hurtful and believe it or not those actions taken by the one posting to vent a persons frustrations or disappointments never go away.
First, make sure we all understand that for the most part, no one is anonymous on the internet. Anytime one logs on to the net they are given a very traceable identification number and generally once something is posted it is there forever.
Is information on the net hurting you? When you "Google" yourself what comes up? Is the information true, is it good or does it sully your reputation. The bad news is that information will stay with you forever.
Tips to manage your reputation.
1. Run a search under your name every couple of months.
2. Run just your first initial and last name.
3. Then your full initials and last name.
4. Run a search of your name in news groups, many are still around.
If all is clear you are in good shape. However, if there something that disparages you, you need to get on it right away. Remember that information will never go away, you need to contact a company that will literally "bury" that information so far into the back of the internet it will be lost.
Especially if the bad news that haunts you is packed with lies.
