Applying for distance learning, people usually consider costs and time flexibility as the main factors to support such decision. The same factors can be used as criteria for selecting a specific educational institution or certification center for distance learning. Another important factor, which is nevertheless ignored by most people, is the accreditation of distance learning institutions. Thus, this article will attempt to explain the importance of accreditation as a significant criterion in selecting distance learning school.

Accreditation

Accreditation is mostly about standards. The fact that a particular distance learning school is accredited implies that such school follows specific educational standards. If a school meets the required minimum of those standards, it is granted accreditation. The significance of accreditation of distance learning schools can be seen through the fact that most schools are located online, and thus, the foundation of a specific school can be hard to assess, specifically with internet being filled with many fraudulent practices. In that regard, accredited distance learning school is not only a guarantee for the applicant, but implies that graduates will receive accredited diplomas which will be accepted by most employers.

Factors to Consider

There are several factors to consider when choosing a distance learning school, the most important of which is not to enroll in a school that was accredited by an artificial organization. Schools might provide false accreditation information, and for most students the fact of accreditation is sufficient to trust the organization. Thus, students should check the information indicated by schools, ask for confirmation of the source of accreditation, and/or conduct a research on the internet on the credibility of the school. Students should know that such aspect cannot be ignored as it will determine the acceptance of the degree by potential employers in the future.
