Caribbean Cruise Lines Activity Guide: Exotic Shoretrips and Excursions

Exotic beaches and cultures are some of the benefits of a cruise ship shore activity. First settled by native Indians, the Caribbean islands were invaded by European countries, which brought African slaves. This resulted in a wonderful mixture of peoples and cultures in the area. Your cruise should include exploration of the islands and countries you ship is going to stop at. Here is a brief guide to the many things you can see in the northern Caribbean.

In Nassau, Bahamas you can visit historical Old Town, visit the straw market where artisans craft purses and dolls and other articles. The marine park at Crystal Cay is fun to see. If you are interested in gambling, the casino at Paradise Island Resort is the place to be!

The Virgin Islands are famous for the white sand beaches. The islands are small and very busy. Duty free shipping abounds and the specialties are linens and liquors.

San Juan, Puerto Rico is known restored colonial Spanish architecture in the downtown area. You can visit a rain forest or go spelunking in caves. Scuba, snorkeling and fishing are other activities. Spanish language and culture prevails here.

Jamaica is known for it's beautiful bays and falls. Be sure to see Dunn River Falls and enjoy the view of the water as it falls 600 ft. You need to try the Jamaican jerk chicken; it has a wonderful spicy flavor. You may want to wash it down with local island rum. And of course enjoy the Jamaican culture where everything is "no problem, mon".

British influence prevails in Grand Cayman. Here you will see a mix of many cultures thanks to the influence of the banking business. Enjoy the surf and sun on Seven Mile beach. You can see the sea turtles at the new Turtle Farm, or take a boat to Sting Ray city and romp with the stingrays. Grand Cayman is probably best known for its reefs and the wonderful snorkeling and diving. English and Jamaican dialect is spoken here.

Enjoy the Mexican culture on the island of Cozumel or at Cancun. Mexican culture with a little European influence can be found at Playa del Carmen. Visit the local shops for silver, linens, and other crafts. Be prepared to bargain. Explore ancient Mayan culture by visiting the ruins at Tulum or see the pyramid at Chichen-Itza. Take a tour bus to the ecological parks. Snorkeling and scuba is tops here along the reefs. Try the Mexican foods at the local restaurants.
