With all of the advances in technology, adding video to your website design is fairly easy. It doesn't take much time, and it provides several benefits for you. Here are 5 reasons that you should incorporate video into your website design:

1. Video is interesting. One of the basic purposes of a website is to keep customers and potential customers on the site, and coming back to the site. In order to do this, though, you have to keep it interesting. Video is interesting. It combines motion, and offers visitors a chance to interact on some level with another human being. In fact, people are more likely to watch an entire video clip (of between 1 and 3 minutes) than they are to read an entire webpage, blog post or article.
2. Video increases your search engine ranking. Search engines look for a variety of items when creating rankings. And one way to ensure that your website gets noticed by search engines is to add video to your web design. Things like pictures and video add interest to webpages, and search engine rankings recognize this. In fact, Google recently announced that it will indexing videos. So make sure that you label your video with searchable tags for the word search, and then enjoy the results from the Google video indexing.
3. Video adds to your credibility. If done correctly, a video can actually increase your credibility. A how-to video showing as well as describing how to properly install a curtain rod is much more helpful than dry, written-out instructions. It doesn't have to be a how-to video, either. You can create a mini-seminar on the keys to investing if you like. It is important to your credibility, however, to keep the overt selling to a minimum. The idea is to establish yourself as an expert on the topic, and provide useful information. Sales and traffic will increase as you do this.
4. Video sets you apart from your competitors. Do your competitors offer video on their websites? If not, incorporating video in your website design will set you apart. You will be seen as an improvement over your competitors. If your competitors do have video, you can use yours to set you apart. Use a different style, or look for useful material that your competitors do not have.
5. Video can provide a gateway from other sites to your website. The YouTube phenomenon illustrates a very important point about video. If you upload it an easy-to-share format, you will find that you use the video to provide a gateway. Make sure you set up a YouTube account and post your videos there, including a link to the site. You can also create a watermark of your website to show at the bottom of your video. That way, if you make an interesting video that "goes viral" it can serve as a marketing tool, sending visitors to your website to see more videos.
Videos are easy to create, incorporate into your website and to distribute. They can drive traffic to your site, and keep people there, ultimately translating into more revenue.
