How Your Body's Systems Start to Break Down

It continuously amazes me how many otherwise diligent, conscientious and together people can totally drop the ball when it comes to taking care of their body well.

The Disconnect

There could be other reasons for this phenomena, but I believe the main disconnect is ignorance or confusion. The second most problematic issue is motivation. In our society we are taught to put ourselves last, and people mistakenly apply this moral idea to their bodies. For whatever reason, the vast majority of people are neglecting their bodies and consequently they are experiencing body system breakdown.

You overcome ignorance when you understand how your body's systems are being compromised. You move beyond the motivation barrier when you accept the fact that you cannot be any good to anyone if you don't first take good care of your self – body, heart and mind. Only then can you really begin the journey to optimum health and wholeness.

The Beginning of System Breakdown

The digestive system is made to efficiently process food. It has everything it needs. The problem is we are giving it many things it doesn't need! In fact we put so much nasty & unnecessary junk into our stomach that our digestive systems become clogged up. It is a scientific fact that most people have at least 5 lbs of toxic waste in their intestines. If you are overweight, you probably have even more. Some people have been found to have up to 60 lbs of health destroying toxic waste in their intestines. Obviously that isn't good.

This toxic waste lines the walls of your intestines & keeps you from digesting food and getting the proper nutrition from it. Obviously this affects your overall health because the cells in every part of your body depend on this system for nutrition. Also, when your cells reproduce, they don't have the proper ingredients to create new healthy cells. You can see how this creates a terrible domino effect on all the systems of your body. Intestinal disease is the leading cause of death in America.

Because of this pollution in our intestines we attract parasites. Yes, most people have parasites of one kind or another. There are many types, some are almost microscopic. What they do is drain your energy and create an acidic environment in your digestive system. This makes it even harder to digest because the good bacteria cannot live in this acidic environment. You need good bacteria to assist you in digestion.

Your liver is a multipurpose organ. It contributes to digestion, and helps remove toxins from your blood. It also gets clogged up, mainly by cholesterol and other types of toxic fats we ingest. This inhibits your ability to remove toxins. This problem is greatly magnified by the fact that we are getting more toxins than any generation of our ancestors did. We need our livers healthy more than ever! The liver cannot hope to keep up with the toxins we encounter in its degraded state. Of course again, this affects your overall health.

Your nutrition and waste removal systems both depend heavily on the liver and the heart and the blood. When your toxic removal system breaks down, your arteries can become clogged and your heart weakened. . . Of course this leads to heart failure which is the second highest "cause of death" in America.

Junk food is a major cause of internal pollution. That almost goes without saying. Fried food, processed food, preserved food & meats are all big contributors to breakdown of your digestive & detox systems.

To top it off, even the food we think is "good" like vegetables & fruit are now much lower in nutritional value because they are grown in depleted soil. They also contain chemical pollution from pesticides and runoff that your liver must work overtime to remove from your body.

Fortunately there is something you can do about this. Here are the most important steps to take to prevent and turn back system breakdown:

First cleanse your body of waste and toxins. You can find some great products to do this at a health food store or online. It's easier than you think.

Next begin to alter the way you treat your body by learning how to keep it clean and healthy. This is done by changing what you put into your body and giving it the proper exercise. Sometimes physical therapy like acupuncture or chiropractic can really get you started.

Finally, change your relationship to your body with awareness and appreciation. A good practice is to get into a totally relaxed state, and bring your awareness to your body one part at a time. Feel the tension or pain that may reside there and let your resistance to it relax.
